Amidst recent waves of industrial action in contexts such as the UK, there have been growing concerns about early career academics聽given the 鈥減ublish or perish鈥� context of academia as well as wider anxieties around casualisation and job security.

And yet, there has been a limited range of philosophical commentary on this situation 鈥撀爁or and from those at intersections that make them doubly compromised, including early career colleagues working within the arts and humanities.

This conference seeks to explore the philosophical questions around the root causes of this particular rendering of the "neoliberal" university, and the role of the early career academic in this context. It aims to foster a supportive environment in which research can be shared, discussed and worked on in a collective way.

Call for papers: Please submit a 1000-word paper to alison.brady.14@ucl.ac.uk by 8 April.

A sandwich lunch will be provided. In addition, there will be grants (up to 拢150) to cover the cost of transport and accommodation. If you wish to avail of the grant, please mention this in your email, alongside聽a rough estimation of costs.

This event will be particularly useful for early career researchers and doctoral students.

Please note this is a hybrid event and can be joined either in-person or online.
